What NOT to Wear to a Job Interview

Hey Fashionistas!!!

So you know I graduate in a few weeks (finallyyyy) an a lot of my friends have been asking me what to wear for their upcoming work interviews in this new professional field.  Now, I’ve had to get dressed for my fair share of interviews.  It doesn't matter if its your first interview or the 100,000 one you want to make a good impression and, as shallow as this may sound, first impressions are very very important and how you look has a big impact on that first impression.    I feel regardless of what type of job you’re interviewing for, there are some general rules you should follow about what to wear and what not to wear. Today I’m going to talk about what NOT to wear on an interview. Unless you don’t want the job, then, by all means go ahead and do them all.

what NOT to wear for an interview

1. If it looks like something you’d wear to prom.

2. If it’s ripped, has holes, or is some kind of denim.

3. Anything short. If you can’t bend over without flashing your panties, save it.

4. General rule- if it’s shorter than an inch above your knees, don’t wear it. Some people are very conservative and that’s not OK in an office environment. (It’s always better to err on the side of caution/conservative until you learn the rules of a specific environment.)

5. Six-inch heels or heels you can’t walk in. Seriously. Just don’t.

6. A wedding dress. I know you want to wear it more than once, but unless you’re working at a wedding dress shop, not a good plan.

7. If it looks like you’re going clubbing or stayed up all night drinking, no.

8. Anything with sheer panels or cutouts. Save that for later.

9. Tops with words or phases on them. It’s great that you love unicorns. But you don’t need your potential employers to know that until you cover your desk with figurines.

10. Anything that resembles lingerie. Unless you’re working as a stripper or a lingerie shop. Then, by all means!

11. Sneakers or flip-flops. Or anything spiked.

Pretty easy right?? Basically you don’t want to look like you’re going to the beach or a party or a wedding. You want to look professional and polished, and it’s possible to do that without sacrificing your own personal style.  You want the hiring manager to focus on your resume, your words, your experience, rather than be distracted with whatever crazy thing your wearing.  I usually pick something neutral, like a grey blazer, dark pants, or a black dress. Add something with flair and color, like a printed top or a statement necklace. You want to look comfortable in your outfit and you don’t want to give an interviewer a reason to not invite you back for a second interview. It’s always better to head off to an interview dressed more conservatively.

Good luck if you are going to any interviews any time soon and let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy!

The Quest for Perfection: BareMinerals BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation

Hey Fashionistas!!!

It's Memorial Day Monday shout out to all the Men & Women in uniform that sacrifice everything for our freedom and safety. Now today is a day off and I know I'm not the only one excited about that.  So lately we been bombarded with TV commercial, billboards, magazine adds, you name it!  But the truth its that we been seeing a very different product from BareMinerals.  BareMinerals launch its mineral foundation almost a decade ago.  I started using it a few years back with not many expectations, but boy did it prove me wrong!! I was immediately hooked. I loved the extremely lightweight feel, the way it made me look like I had no makeup on whatsoever and the non-drying texture that lasted all day without making me look caky. Now I'm so excited that the brand is bringing all that amazing technology to its first-ever line of liquid foundation, BareSkin—just in time to refresh our summer makeup routines.  Beware that this may be a long post, but hey there's just so much to tell!!!!

Now, I don't use a foundation on a daily basis.  I mostly use a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer and only use a foundation on a need to basis, when going out at night or for special events.  When I look at a liquid foundation, I want the texture to be smooth, feel lightweight, give me the coverage that I need, and hydrate my skin. Those are a must for me. My biggest concern is coverage and the feeling. The first time I tried this foundation, I immediately noticed the texture. It’s very lightweight and feels like a serum. The coverage is also really nice. You have control on how much coverage you want based on how many drop you use. I like to use about 3 drops each side for my perfect coverage.  Even tho its a serum foundation, I still recommend using a primer as a base and a setting powder on top (mineral veil). I feel like as long as you set the foundation, it stays really nicely. I noticed if you don’t use a setting powder, the foundation kind of slides around and doesn’t stay put. But in the end, I do really like how natural, and light feeling the foundation is. Totally recommend everyone to give it a try!

Things You Might Like to Know:
  • There is no water, oil, silicone, parabens or fragrance in this formula
  • It’s dermatologist and Ophthalmologist Tested
  • This foundation is for all skin types and skin tones
  • It’s also Hypoallergenic, and Non-comedogenic

Key Ingredients:
  • Vitamin C- to brighten the skin , reduce the appearance of dark spots, making the skin more even toned.
  • Titanium Dioxide- Everyone needs some sun protection!! SPF 20
  • Lilac Plant Stem Cells- antioxidant defense

Now on how to use it:
 1. Shake, Shake, Shake! Make sure you shake the bottle really well each time you use the foundation
2. Drop! The coverage is based on how many drops you use:
**Use 2 drops at a time, then you can build the coverage after with more drops if you need to
1-2 drops – sheer coverage
3-4 drops- medium coverage
5-6 drops- full coverage
3. Buff! Buff the foundation onto your skin using circular motions. Start from the center and work your way out.

The Brush:

At first when I saw this weird shaped brush, I was wondering how it would work with the foundation or how it would work at all. I have never seen a brush like this. BUT, after using this brush, it totally makes the foundation apply perfectly! GET THE BRUSH!! The center is so dense, it hold those drops right on top of the brush. Its blends the foundation out really nicely and evenly.  I also tried putting it on with my Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki and it also came out looking flawless.

The Colors:
There are 20 different, brand new colors to choose from! If you are going to try this foundation, I recommend getting shade matched. The colors are so different from the Original, Matte, and the Ready foundation. Ulta has a Shade Finder tool that can help you in a shade selection in case you are interested.

If you like This, try That

Hey Fashionistas!!  You know how pages like Amazon and Ebay makes recommendations based on products you've bought? Well this is my version of that featuring new ways to wear stuff and ideas that you already love.  I will give you trends that are totally in this for this upcoming Very Hot Weather and that are definitely worth trying.  Enjoy!

1. IF YOU LIKE JEANS & FUNKY TOPS, TRY FLIPPING THE LOOK

So you know how we tend to keep patterns and busy prints for top while wearing neutral monochromatic bottoms.
Well how about flipping the look, wear a simple T-shirt
or plain blouse while pairing it with printed bottoms.

2. IF YOU LIKE PRINT-MIXING, TRY PRINT-MATCHING
You may know by now I love mixing prints and patterns but let me tell you something else.  In case you've always thought of matchy-matchiness as a no-no, Katharine McPhee (in striped Tanya Taylor) and Jamie Chung (in polka-dotted Banana Republic x Marimekko) are here to convince you it's a win-win.  Just remeber this combo will work as long as the separates are chic and the accessories contrast with the rest of the look.  If you have doubts on Mixing Prints check out this previous post.

3. IF YOU LIKE ANKLE-STRAP HEELS, TRY ANKLE-WRAP HEELS

These tie-on pumps will be everywhere this summer. Bionda Castana is the brand behind the ones you see on celebs like Hailee Steinfeld and Rachel Bilson, but we're starting to see affordable versions, too.

4. IF YOU LIKE HIGH-LOW DRESSES, TRY THE ASYMMETRICAL HEMLINE

Let me brake it to you, the mullet haircut has been out of style for decades and the mullet hemline is in need of an update as well. Luckily, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence deliver up an alternative with their higher-on-one-side dresses (Rubin Singer and Christian Dior Resort, respectively).

5. IF YOU LIKE PLEATS, KEEP WEARING PLEATS

That's my way of saying that there's no way to improve upon this style ... except by incorporating more of the folds into your wardrobe. We love the ladylike accordion pleats on Adriana Lima's midi and the wider box ones on Kendall Jenner's romper.

6. IF YOU LIKE STATEMENT NECKLACES, TRY BODY CHAINS

So this trend is HOT for this season and not just for beach photo shoots any more, these delicate designs are popping up on the red carpet under formal dresses, as seen on Lea Michele and Sophia Bush.  I bought mine online but you can certainly find them online or at your local stores and mall. Here's a link where you can find a variety of  Body Chains in different styles, online stores and prices.

So which of this trends you like the most and you are willing to try them out? Let me know!

The Right way to Use it: Mixing Patterns

Hey Fashionistas!!

So today on "the Right way to Use it" I want to get into a trend that as far as I know ( and heard from a few friends and family members) a lot of people think its impossible to do or shouldn't be done at all, and that is Mixing Patterns.  For a long time we have heard only wear one patter at a time, match everything your using so you don't look like a crazy person without a mirror at their house.  But that couldnt be more far from reality.  The biggest rule of fashion, at least for me, is HAVE FUN because there are no rules.  Everything is permissible as long as you do it with taste and a little common sense.  To nail this one you've got to be brave enough to ditch the rule book and double up! With a little practice and confidence, anyone can rock the look.

So how, you may ask, does one clash their prints in a way that looks like a stylish nod to the catwalk trends and not like Worzel Gummidge on a bad day?
It's actually much easier than you might think. Just follow these simple steps and you'll be clashing and coordinating effortlessly before you know it.

Rule 1 - Mix patterns from the same color family.

Using hues from one main color when mixing patterns can create a very subtle look, while still showing your daring side. It’s still visually stimulating for the eye, but in a refined way.

Rule 2 - Opposites Attract

Mixing patterns is supposed to be fun. Although it can look cool, don’t go out head-to-toe in one pattern. That’s too matchy-matchy, and although we love the matchy-matchy look, for this particular brand of print wearing, it's all about teaming the right patterns together to create the perfect clash. The easiest way to stay on track with what works and what doesn't is simply to make sure you choose prints from opposite sides of the pattern wheel.  Although, if you want to push the envelope, switch up the colors of the matching patterns like Rihanna did. It’s a new twist on pattern mixing that keeps the overly matchy-matchy concept fresh. For example....

If you are wearing a feminine floral print or ditzy polkadot skirt, then team it with a tough masculine plaid.

Mix Feminine Prints with Masculine

And if you've got one half all strict and angular stripes then keep the other half full of soft and curvy shapes.

Mix Geometric prints with natural

Rule 3 - Neutral bases are your friends

Yes prints on prints are great, but if your outfit is a riot of colour and pattern then the look you are trying to achieve will be completely lost. Break the clashing up with neutral bases in between your layers to really show off your prints and give the illusion you 'totally just threw this together'. For example...

A simple white tee underneath a printed blazer, means you can easily add a clashing scarf or headpiece without looking overdone.
Basic White Tee with Prints

A sheer black vest thrown over the top of your maxi makes belting your checked shirt around your waist the ideal style statement.

How to Clash Prints

Rule 4 - Think of some patterns/textures as solids

If you have a hounds tooth skirt, think of that as a solid. Same can go for small polka dots, thin stripes or checks. They’re small enough and understated that the eye can view them as a solid, even though they’re really not.

Rule 5 - Look for patterns that complement each other

The last thing you want to do is look like you got dressed in the dark. One way to make sure that doesn’t happen is to choose patterns that complement each other. Stripes and floral always mesh well, as do leopard and stripes or polka dots.

Rule 6 - If in doubt choose statement pieces

Still not sure you can pull it off? Then make it easy for yourself and just pick statement printed pieces and work them into your existing wardrobe. For example...

No one can argue with an all black outfit, but to take it from ordinary to extraordinary you could add a stand out geometric coat and a pair of patterned pumps.

Make a Style Statement

Simple rules, endless outfit options and a tricky trend mastered! You'll never fear the clash again.  Let me know if you like this trend or if you have tried it.  Enjoy!

Having a moment: Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

Hey Fashionistas!!

I been receiving a lot of messages and questions about Make-up lately.  Brands, eyeshadows pallets and how to invest on this items.  First I want to say that each brand has a "forté" or something that set them apart from any other brand.  It can be their brushes, their setting powders, maybe their pigments or eye shadows, so keep this in mind when buying a product.  However, I'm the type of girl that if I like a product and it turns out to be good I will buy it regardless of the brand, whether is high end or a drugstore brand.  For me quality comes first and I like to spend my money on products that will do what they promise, that will work with my skin and complexion and not necessarily make me a specific "brand junkie".  With this said, I want to take the opportunity to talk to you about a product I been having a moment with and loving for quite some time now and it is the
Smashbox Full Exposure Palette.

With this palette is all about shape! Why does shape matter? Just like you dress to flatter your specific body shape, makeup can be applied to enhance the shape of your eyes for your most gorgeous look. What I like about this particular product, is the fact that it contains 14 universally flattering shades, perfect for creating anything from a simple daytime to dramatic night time looks.   I found that the colors are highly pigmented, long-wearing, easily blendable and feel great on. The double-ended brush included with the palette, is my other personal favorite! The fluffy side is absolutely perfect for blending matte shades, and the flat side is great for laying down shimmer shades.  Not to mention the flat side has both natural and fiber hairs depending on your preference. Finally, like I said before with this palette is all about shape, the palette comes with an eye shape get-the-look insert, which not only helps to identify your eye shape but also gives detailed instructions, tips and tricks how to enhance the particular shape of your eyes. The palette includes 3 different looks (day, night and defined) for each of the main 6 eye shapes. If you are just getting started with eyeshadows, the insert will be a useful tool for building technique. The box also came with a sample of the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara, which I must admit at first sight I didn't quite love, but I have learn to love that big brush and currently use it almost on a daily basis.

Let me know which is your favorite Palette at the time, if you have use this one and what are your thoughts on it.  Enjoy!

It's a Neon Trend

Hey Fashionistas!!

A big trend for summer is wearing neon colors, which I love, since it makes everyone look radiant. Dazzling blues, sprightly pinks, yellows that are deserving of placement on a policeman's high visibility jacket are all tones forming this season's unmissable palette. It is important to take into consideration how much neon to wear at once and how to wear it to ensure we don’t over do it. I would suggest to mix neon's with neutral colors or wear just one neon color piece at a time.  Whether you choose to wear neon shoes, a neon skirt or top, make sure to tone it down on the rest of the pieces so they don't compete with one another. And, of course, don’t forget the statement jewelry! If you decide to mix more than one neon color at a time, make sure those are color that would match regardless of the neon effect.  for example, green + blue or Green + pink.  This combos look good whether they are neon or pastels.

Remember this is about having FUN! Don't be scare to wear a bright color like green with a printed black and white skirt.  Don't be afraid to use bright colors in your make-up or clothing, as long as you feel comfortable you will  look good.

Here some pictures to help you get some smart shopping inspiration. Enjoy!!

Tell me if your IN with the Neon Color Trend and how do you like to wear it.

Fashionable Eyebrow Pomade

Hey Fashionistas!!  Today I want to talk to you about a product I been using for a while now and it is the Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade.   I will always have an appreciation for a bold brow.  However, it is a rarely accepted beauty truth that eyebrows of Cara Delevingne-esque magnitude look good on very few people in the world. My approach to filling in my brows is decidedly low-maintenance.  For my daily look I choose to draw in a few individual hairs using a brow pencil until my brows look descent. But when I saw Internet raves for and the frequent selling out of Anastasia's DipBrow Pomade, I was intrigued.

Coming in a pot, the pomade resembles MAC Blacktrack or any gel eyeliner. It's not quite as thick as a gel eyeliner, and has a slightly creamier, waxy texture. What it does have in common with gel eyeliner is durability — the formula claims to be sweat- and waterproof and comes with a brush that has a slanted, stiff tip. They're wax-on eyebrows, and not so much wax-off.

It comes in five different shades and trust me in this case, less is more.  You need the tiniest, tiniest bit of this pomade for your brows. Too much and they will look straight out of a Picasso Cubism painting: solid, hairless slashes. Although the formula stayed pretty resistant throughout several workout classes and a few dance nights, it was blendable for application, although not smudge-y. While it was difficult to draw individual hairs using the brow pomade, the wax consistency made it easy to coax the brows into a different shape. It creates more of a sculpted look, perhaps best used for a studio or photography look, rather than a natural one. It's not quite an effortless brow look, but it is perfect for a night look or whenever you decide to go for a more dramatic and intense bold look.

Let me know what your thoughts are on this pomade.  Do you think the rave its worth it? I certainly do. I think it's an amazing product and one worth buying.  How about you, do you like it? Let me now.... Enjoy!

Happy Styling!!

Having a moment: Crop Tops

Hey Fashionistas!! Hope you all had an amazing weekend with your beautiful mothers, it's Monday again and its time to get back to business.  Last summer I started seeing crop tops little by little.  This little item has gone from season to season and now they are here for spring and summer in full force. Yes they can be very intimidating at first glance, I know, but honestly they are pretty easy to wear. It's not necessarily about the top you see, it's more about what you wear it with. You also don't have to be a particular size or body shape to wear one. I've pulled together a few inspirations of other daring girls who have ventured oh-so-bravely into crop tops. Let's take a look, shall we?
